Year 3 Autumn 2 2026

Welcome back to the new half term! We hope you had a good half term break. Our new topic is “China”.

We are excited to explore dragons through our ‘working scientifically’ science work which uses “Smaug” the dragon from “The Hobbit” as inspiration. We will be exploring how dragons are represented in different cultures with a particular focus on Polish stories and culture and will be learning about “The Dragon of Krakow”, as well as exploring the legend of St George and The Dragon. In English, we will be looking a writing non-chronological reports about dragons. We will be creating our own dragon and looking at using exciting adjectives and vocabulary to add extra information to our writing which we will be organising into paragraphs using headings and sub-headings to structure our work.

As part of this topic we will be studying the country, China. We will look at its history including its human and physical geography as well as comparing this to life here in the UK.

We will be making our own dragons with moving parts using a pneumatic system in Design and Technology.

In Art, we will be printing as well as studying the work of the architect Zaha Hadid.

In PSHE we will be “Celebrating Differences” and discussing different families and what makes our family special to us.

Our RE work will be about Christianity and we will be learning about festivals including Harvest, Christmas and Easter.

Please make sure you are practicing spellings and reading at home at least 4 times a week.  The Year 3 spelling lists can be found in your child’s Comment Book towards the back.

We were pleased that some children have already received prizes for reaching 30 reads at home and have been given their special bookmark.
