Year 4 Autumn 2 2026

Welcome back to the new half term! We hope you had a good half term break. Our new topic is “Into the Jungle”.

We are excited to be exploring the Amazon Rainforest in Geography. Where we will study and compare Amazon villages with our very own Bulwell and Bluebell woods! We will carry our jungle theme over into our working scientifically learning too. Where we will study water cycles, weather, predators and prey, and food chains.

In English, we will be learning how to write a persuasive text, using key features, such as a title, an introduction with a hook, rhetorical questions, fronted adverbials and persuasive language. Our class text this term is “The Secret Explorers and the Rainforest Rangers”. We can’t wait to find out what adventures they go on and what they will encounter whilst there!

In Art, we will be looking at work created by “Kate Morgan”. She is an artist who is famous for creating jungle canvases using different techniques. We will use pencils to sketch and pastels to create a layered effect. These are going to look great!

In PSHE we will be “Celebrating Differences”. We will talk about first impressions. Looking different, feeling different and coming from different backgrounds. We will also look at the effects of bullying and what this looks like at school.

Our RE work will be about different religious pilgrimages and why these are important to Christians, Musilms and Hindus.

Remember to try and read at home at least 4 times a week.  Don’t forget to complete your Accelerated Reader quiz after each book you have read. The QR code for this can be found in the front of the comment books.

As you are aware, Times Tables are a huge part of our curriculum, as the children will sit a Times tables test next Summer. We are secure with our 2s, 5s, 10s, 3, and 4s. Our next focus will be on our 8s. Get the children to show you our “If you know, you know” techniques. Please check that your child is doing at least 1 sound check a week on TTRS. This will help them to prepare for the actual test. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

PE this half term will be on a Friday. We are practicing basketball skills. Please make sure that the children come to school dressed in their PE kits (white t-shirt and black joggers/leggings and black jacket/jumper). Don’t forget to remove or cover your child’s earrings. This includes the boys too.

Please be aware that Miss Taylor will be covering Mrs Hannam until she returns.
