About our school
Hempshill Hall is a popular school and we think it is a special place. Visitors comment on the welcoming atmosphere and we have a dedicated and stable staff team.
There are 420 places in school with two classes in each year group. The nursery has space for 45 children some come part-time just for the morning or afternoon but many children take up the option of a full time (30 hour place) for working parents.
The school serves the Hempshill Vale estate at the northern edge of the City of Nottingham. As a result of its high reputation, the school attracts more than half of its pupils from out of catchment.
Hempshill Hall opened in 1973 with just 48 pupils and two teachers. Over the years it has been extended and developed to provide an outstanding learning environment. All classes have access to large practical areas. There is a hall, a large conservatory and a library. The Early Years unit was developed to provide superb indoor and outdoor facilities for our youngest learners.
Hempshill Hall Primary is set in attractive grounds with plenty of space for outdoor learning. Gardening is an important part of our curriculum and we have sheds, fruit trees, raised vegetable beds and a green-house made from recycled bottles.
To develop nurturing skills, we have some animals that the children help to take care of. They include: rabbits, guinea-pigs and chickens. At break times children can use the trim trail and enjoy a wide range of activities from building blocks to stilts. The field, basketball court and Astroturf allow us to enjoy Sports throughout the year.

Relationships with Parents and the Community
The school has a very good partnership with its parents and the community and this is another of the school’s many strengths. Central to the school’s commitment to raising standards is the belief that parental involvement is critical.
To this end the school is successful in helping parents to share responsibility with the school for their children’s education. Many parents hear their children read at home and, through the knowledge and skills gained by attending the school’s courses, many are familiar with how young children learn and how best to help them.
